Travelling abroad can often expose you to a number of diseases and health risks. It is advisable that you make yourself aware of the possible dangers and take precaution. Here are some tips on how to stay healthy whilst travelling;

 

Health Advice

  • Visit your GP to check if you may need any vaccinations or medication
  • If you require regular prescriptions you will need to make sure that you have enough to see you through your holiday
  • Consult your GP prior to a holiday if you are pregnant
  • Consult your GP if you have a heart or circulation condition as well as if you have recently undergone surgery
  • Adjust your contraceptive pill schedule for local time

Safety Advice

  • Always practice safe sex – purchase a trusted brand of condoms before departure as quality may vary between countries
  • Obtain local emergency numbers prior to your stay

Travel Advice

  • It is important to take out travel insurance just in case you fall ill or get injured whilst on holiday
  • Avoid wearing tight clothing when travelling long distances
  • Stretch regularly to avoid problems with circulation
  • Try walking at regular intervals during long flights
  • Avoid alcohol and keep hydrated

Climate advice

  • Keep safe in the heat – make sure you drink plenty of fluids in hot climates to avoid dehydration
  • Keep safe in the sun - protect your skin with high factor sun creams
  • Protect yourself from mosquitoes and other insects with protective clothing and repellents
